Outdoor Calgary Activities for 2021

Calgary, Calgary, Calgary, Calgary

Calgary is one of Canada’s most beautiful cities, with a vibrant and diverse culture that has a lot to celebrate. There are so many wonderful things about living in Calgary, including the expansive nature that surrounds the city as well as the many activities, festivals, and events that take place year-round. Here are some of the outdoor activities you can find in 2021.

Please note that due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, some activities may be restricted in accordance with municipal and provincial measures. It’s always a good idea to contact any facility you plan to visit to confirm whether their opening hours or services have been impacted by restrictions.

Calgary Scavenger Hunt

Calgary’s scavenger hunt is a huge interactive experience that just about anyone can take part in. It’s an app-led tour of the city that takes in all of the major art and statues, so you and your friends meander around the streets spotting all the places of interest mentioned on the app. Once you’ve purchased a ticket, you can take part in the 3.27km walk that lasts roughly 1.5 to 2 hours.

Zoo Lights

Running from the end of November to early January, this magical experience includes a skating rink, Firepits, and Santa Claus in his cabin. The main event is the wonderful lights that run throughout the park. Over two million lights are on display along with 200 light figurines.

Downhill skiing and snowboarding

Calgary was home to the 1988 Winter Olympics, and you can ski and snowboard in the footsteps of those athletes. There are winter activities to partake in all winter long, or you can take a trip to the Canadian Rockies to see the Sunshine Village or Mount Norquay Ski Resort.

Outdoor Pool

If soaking in a hot pool is your thing, then try Banff Upper Hot Springs located in Banff National Park. The water is a wonderful 37 to 40 degrees and has lots of natural properties. Another way to be pampered is at the Kananaskis Nordic Spa, which is an hour west of Calgary. It has outdoor pools, saunas, and spas as well as steam rooms all to help you relax.

Whitewater Paddling

Summer in Calgary has just as many exciting outdoor activities as winter. One of these is paddling or river surfing in Bow River at Harvie Passage. There is a choice of two passages: the eastern passage with class 3 rapids for the more experienced, and the western passage for regular boaters.

These are just a few of the many activities you can do all year round in Calgary. No matter what your experience or interest, there is bound to be something you will love to do.
